A regi\u00e3o pertence \u00e0 Bacia de Irec\u00ea e apresenta forma\u00e7\u00f5es geol\u00f3gicas antigas, com metassedimentos e carbonatos onde aparecem estromat\u00f3litos. Ao longo do tempo, desenvolveu-se um relevo c\u00e1rstico, com cavernas e ravinas que abrigam pinturas rupestres do per\u00edodo Pleistoc\u00eanico. O solo predominante \u00e9 f\u00e9rtil e argiloso (cambissolo eutr\u00f3fico). O clima \u00e9 semi\u00e1rido, com chuvas concentradas entre dezembro e fevereiro.<\/center>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd2779c O n\u00facleo inicial se formou a partir de fam\u00edlias de colonizadores portugueses, como Alberto Pires de Carvalho, que se casou com a ind\u00edgena Fel\u00edcia, e Mar\u00e7al Ferreira dos Santos, junto com seus descendentes. A busca por novas terras e fontes de \u00e1gua levou Izidro Jos\u00e9 Ferreira e seus familiares a abrir picadas pela caatinga, chegando ao local que originaria o povoado de Ro\u00e7a de Dentro, onde se instalaram ro\u00e7as, casas de farinha e atividades agr\u00edcolas voltadas \u00e0 subsist\u00eancia.<\/p>\n\n<details><summary>Leia mais<\/summary>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">economia local baseava-se na cria\u00e7\u00e3o de gado e no cultivo de feij\u00e3o, milho, mandioca, cana e andu, com com\u00e9rcio feito por tropeiros. Em 1926, a regi\u00e3o foi palco de conflitos com a Coluna Prestes, resultando em mortes, inc\u00eandios e destrui\u00e7\u00e3o de moradias. Ap\u00f3s a reconstru\u00e7\u00e3o, o povoado passou a se chamar Central em 1928, com a inaugura\u00e7\u00e3o de uma estrada regional. Em 1935, tornou-se Distrito de Paz e, em 1958, foi elevado a munic\u00edpio, desmembrando-se de Xique-Xique. A primeira elei\u00e7\u00e3o local ocorreu em 1970, ap\u00f3s a cria\u00e7\u00e3o da zona eleitoral em 1968.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o recente de Central teve in\u00edcio com o casal formado pelo portugu\u00eas Alberto Pires de Carvalho e a \u00edndia Fel\u00edcia, e com Mar\u00e7al Ferreira dos Santos, tamb\u00e9m portugu\u00eas, e sua esposa Josefa Ferreira de Brito, pais de oito filhos. Alberto Pires de Carvalho partira de Jacobina para Xique-Xique e, depois, mudara-se para Tiririca (atual Itagua\u00e7u),\u00a0comprando terras do Coronel Ernesto Augusto da Rocha Medrado.\u00a0No povoado de Saco dos Bois, vizinho a Itagua\u00e7u, morava um fazendeiro cujos vaqueiros, com cachorros e ferr\u00f5es, aprisionaram na Serra do Assuru\u00e1 uma jovem \u00edndia, que foi batizada com o nome de Fel\u00edcia e que, com quatro anos, &#8220;estava mansa&#8221;. Alberto Pires de Carvalho, ouvindo falar da beleza da jovem, foi conhec\u00ea-la, casando-se com ela.
